Huawei Powers China Mobile Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE:CHL)’s Carrier Aggregation Test

China Mobile Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE:CHL) and Huawei announced that the two companies have successfully completed an uplink CA field testing and validation. The carrier aggregation field testing uses 64 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation. The entire work has been finished using the commercial network of Jiangsu Mobile.

The details

The testing that Huawei completed in association with China Mobile is considered as a step closer towards achieving actual commercialization. It is said to be first testing of its type in the world that has witnessed 180% rise in uplink rates. The uplink carrier aggregation can be better defined a key LTE-advanced technology that can significantly improve uplink data rate. It enables operators to check multiple radio channels in same or different frequency bands as if all channels were one.

Uplink data rate

The surge in uplink data rate is positive news for China Mobile, as it would enhance the customer’s experience when they use upload services. The testing was conducted both at individual as well as enterprise level. The LTE technology, tested by China Mobile and Huawei Technologies, will boost the performance during video upload. So far, the technology has been only used to get high download speeds, but moving ahead focus will shift on letting users transmit data at higher speeds.

The up gradation process

The operators can easily adopt the uplink CA solution by using a simple software upgrade. There is no requirement for operators to buy additional equipment. Huawei said that it intends to accelerate the commercialization of uplink CA with operators across the world. Along with uplink CA verification process, China Mobile has also started upgrading its network in Shenzhen to ‘TDD LTE-A’. As of now, Huawei has not disclosed when the first networks featuring uplink CA would become available. The set up of new technology requires up gradation of mobile devices and infrastructure.
