However, late on a Sunday, a seismic shift occurred when tech billionaire Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter the previous year, initiated a rebranding effort, renaming the platform X.com and replacing the iconic bird logo with a stylized version of the 24th letter of the Latin alphabet.
In the cafeteria of Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, a prominent projection of their distinctive X logo adorned the walls. Additionally, the various conference rooms bore intriguing names, several of which prominently featured the letter X, including “eXposure,” “eXult,” and “s3Xy.” As the transition unfolded, bird-related paraphernalia, including a giant blue logo in the cafeteria, was removed.
Workers outside the Twitter building initiated the removal of the initial six letters of the company name, but their actions were promptly halted by the San Francisco Police Department, citing “unauthorized work.”
Elon Musk had dropped hints about a potential name change, but he accelerated the process by announcing via Twitter, “Soon, we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and gradually say farewell to all the birds.”
Musk’s vision for Twitter, now X, extends beyond a mere social networking platform; he aims to transform it into an “everything app” that encompasses not only social media but also banking and shopping.
The rebranding marks one of the most prominent and controversial changes since Musk’s acquisition of Twitter in October.
